Convention Center to expand by 100,000 SF with the addition of a temporary structure, likely to be completed by January 2005. Currently, the San Jose McEnery Convention Center has 143,000 SF of exhibit space within the 450,000 SF structure. The expansion will allow the operators to book larger conferences, as well as to run two separate conferences simultaneously. See www.sanjose.org for more details on the Convention Center and booking meeting space in Downtown San Jose.

Lowry's Irish Coffee - Now open!

Joie de Vivre's Historic Hotel Montgomery readies for reopening. Rehabilitation of the historic hotel will conclude this spring in time for a June 18 opening. Its new operator, Joie de Vivre, best describes this phenomenal building:
"Hotel Montgomery marries the past and present of beautiful San Jose featuring a striking Neo-Classical design steeped in casual elegance and comfort. The hotel’s lobby, guestrooms, meeting spaces and restaurant/bar evoke a sense of dramatic authenticity—full of interesting details and smart design features."

The hotel was built in 1911 and was one of the finest hotels of its day. It closed in 1989 after suffering damage in the Loma Prieta Earthquake. In 2000, it became the largest building ever moved on rubber wheels as it slid 186 feet south to make room for the Fairmont Hotel Addition. The rehabilitated hotel will feature 86-rooms, Paragon as its destination restaurant, and bocce ball courts.
